I can't believe they're rationalizing limiting the Iraq reconstruction contracts to those who supported the war in terms of security interests. Does the Bush admin really consider France, Germany, and Russia security threats? What I can't figure out is whether it's really about vengeance or big business... either would be contemptible, but I suspect the biggest part of the American public sympathizes with Bush the Avenger.
It's our duty as citizens to cease to be surprised by the depths to which these Bush guys will sink - be they the depths of pettiness, machiavellianism or ineptitude (not mutually exclusive, natch). A key to their power seems to be their willingness to go too far, to leave people breathless, shocked and off-balance. 'They wouldn't do THAT would they?' Yes, they would. Then they wait for you to paranoiacally overreact to something benign....I wrack my brain to think of an in-context worse administration in all our history; there's GOT to be somebody...Grant? Tyler? Buchanan? Reagan? Nixon? Harding? There MUST be somebody...I can't think of one.
