Rather unsubtle meaning  

I have to register my disappointment with the piece on Evo Morales over at Slate. It's great that they're doing these cosmopolitan dispatches ("Notes from different corners of the world"), but wouldn't it make more sense to write from an open perspective? I can only read the piece as smugly contemptuous of Evo and the MAS. There's no attempt to grapple with Bolivia in cultural or historical terms - it's just an ironic eye with an entirely American sensibility (this is not a good thing).
